XTC Mulitsport Race
Active Life Physiotherapy was busy as the XTC Multisport event that was held for the first time in Squamish. Sophia and I provided onsite physiotherapy services at the event and Sophia also helped with the feed station (Thank you Sophia!). I took the opportunity to race the duathlon. While my legs were not doing so well running downhill I was able to recover on the bike and gain some time on the field on the technical mountain bike section. It was great fun and I was very proud to be wearing our activelife multisport gear. At the end of the full tri and duathlon the Kids Race was held and I had the opportunity to ride with them on the course and help fix some bike chains that came off. The young up and comers are fast! We look forward to being out at the event next year linking our mountain bikers with trail runners in the team category! We would like to thank XTC Multisport for organizing a fabulous event.
Cross on the Rocks
Hello Everyone! The cross season is building momentum! This is a brief update from the First Cross on the Rocks race in Nanaimo held last Sunday - September 13th. The day was warm and sunny so the ferry ride over was very pleasant as I had a chance to catch some more zzzz's before starting - the open women's race at 2:00pm. Former National team member was on the start line so I knew this was going to be a fast race and long! We raced for about an hour and I was happy not to be too far back from the top three riders - finishing in fifth place. The race started fast with a hard left which lead us through a tight and twisty section in the trees to the BMX section - which was fun. You had to be careful not to get too much air! We then climbed up and had a run up some stairs and a tight and twisty section in the sand on which I did bail on one of the laps - at least it was soft. Must get used to riding skinny tires! The next cross race will be BC Cup Number Two and Three in Vancouver - October 3 and 4th. I will aim to bring the tent so anyone wishing to try the event or hang in the tent is more than welcome!
ALC Run - Thursday, September 24 - 6:15pm
Ladies - I plan to mix it up this week if people are interested. Due to a work commitment I will be downtown this Thursday, I plan to run a full loop of the Stanley Park Seawall - starting at 6:15pm from the Vancouver Rowing Club found here. Please let me know if you are interested in coming out, the weather looks amazing & the pace will be conversational! Hope to see you then, Charlotte
Trail Run - Thursday, September 17th - 6pm
Ladies - we plan to hike the BCMC trail to the top of Grouse Mountain this week (as we were foiled at our last attempt in July due to trail work) - please meet at the start of the Grouse Grind gates at 6pm sharp! All are welcome - don't forget $ for the Skyride down. Charlotte
Last XC Ride - Wednesday, September 16 - 6:00
Hey gals,
This week's ride will be the last formal xc ride for the season. I will be away for work the next 2 weeks so unfortunately this will be the last week. We will meet at the usual spot in the Lower Seymour Demonstration Forest (start of paved path, by ranger station).
If you're interested in trying out some cyclocross this fall, please contact Heather. If you're interested in some fall/winter fun road riding, let Charlotte or myself know and we'll keep you in the loop of any informal group rides we do to keep us moving through the rainy season!
Hope to see you Wednesday,
KJ
Race Report - Mount Revelstoke Steamer
Well, I made my road cycling race debut this past weekend by riding in the Revelstoke Steamer.
This race was a 27km hill-climb time trial starting at the base of Mt. Revelstoke, climbing 1600m (4800ft) to the summit of the mountain on the paved roadway. In a nutshell, it was a true sufferfest. ~100 riders lined up at the start, leaving at 30 second intervals - since I drove up to Revy from Vancouver on Saturday, I was the 95th rider to line up. It was 25 degrees by the time I rolled off the start, Cancellara-style....sort of. While I may not have claimed the polka-dot jersey, I wore the Active Life kit with pride and will definitely race this one again next year.
My new Jawbone sunnies from NSA did not fog up at all... as long as you look good road cycling...you are good, right! I knew Lance was onto something good with those shades.
Check out the race site here for more info & results as they are posted - Revelstoke Steamer.

Cross Season has Started!
Cross Season Opener - BC Cup #1 - Fort Langley
The first race of the season was held on Sunday in Langley. It was a true cross race with lots of mud and some showers. Our Active Life Multisport team was represented by Amanda Butler and myself, Heather King, in the Masters race. Amanda was riding super strong until a flat took her out of the race. We will meet at the northern-most parking lot by the baseball diamonds. We have a mini cross course set up to ride! If you are interested please e-mail me at heather@activelifephysio.ca.
