Mommy and Me Hike CANCELED

Moms are busy, and since no one can make it Aug 27, 2009, the hike will be canceled. This will also be the end of the season for the Mommy and Me Hikes since September is proving to be a busy month for most. Please keep in touch informally and stay active in life! Watch the blog for updates on impromptu club activities during the fall and winter season.
It's been a great summer!

Mommy and Me Hike Thurs Aug 27

Since last week was a "no-go" we'll aim for the same plan. 9:30am at Capilano Fish Hatchery (not the Cleveland Dam). Park at the very FIRST little parking lot, right after the houses end, on the left as you drive in (it fits about 5 cars) and we'll hike in from there. We'll hike for about an 1-1:15 hours, and get some great views of the canyon and dam for the kids! Please RSVP (coming or not) to Sophia by Wed night at sophia@activelifephysio.ca. Hope to see you there!
Cheers, Sophia

See you there!

Fall/Winter Club Plans

A few of you have been asking us what our club plans are for the fall and winter. Due to lack of daylight, rides and runs will end by the end of September. After September, we are thinking of doing some more casual weekend road rides to keep some fitness up over the winter. These rides will be LSD rides (long slow distance), they will be fun and we will always keep the group together. AND most importantly, we'll try to end at a java shop somewhere for a well deserved treat!
We will also every now and then head out for a snowshoe hike or run after work with headlamps. Contact KJ or Charlotte if you're interested in road riding or snowshoeing over the winter.
Watch the blog near the end of September to find out exact dates for when our rides/runs/hikes will be ending.
Hope you're all having a great summer!

XC Ride - Wednesday, August 19 - 6:00

Hey gals,
Weather looks perfect for riding this week! We'll be meeting at 600 at the usual spot in the Lower Seymour Demonstration Forest (by the ranger building at the start of the paved path).
Tara and KJ will be the ride leaders this week. Next week Heather will be out and KJ will be away on holidays for a couple weeks. In September, the rides will be shorten due to light and we'll be ending rides mid to end of September, depending on work schedules. If you're interested in continuing to ride in September, please contact KJ at kjsadler[at]shaw.ca.
Hope to see you Wednesday!
KJ and Tara

Trail Run - Thursday, August 13 - 6pm

Hey gals,
Plan is to meet at the usual spot (Seymour Demonstration Forest, by the start of the paved path where the old gazebo used to be and now benches are). This week we might do some "sessioning" and work on some technical skills, depending on the weather. We'll be out there rain or shine, but let's hope for shine!
See you Wednesday,
KJ and Tara

Stein Valley Trip Report

A few folks have asked about some photos from my trip into the Stein Valley - see here, I have added them to the ALC Photo Gallery.

In brief:
We started the trip by stashing our packs at the base of the Lizzie Lake Forest Service Rd, near Pemberton. Then drove up over the Duffy Lk Rd and parked the truck at the top of Blowdown Pass, jumped on our commuter bikes, and rode back on the Duffy 70km to where our packs were stashed, good times - then the hiking started! We then climbed up over the alpine area and dropped into the top end of Stein Lake - then continued east down the valley, ending by climbing back up over Blowdown Pass to the truck, a human powered 70K+70K point-to-point trip over 5 days.

No bears, no people, one forest fire, and some tired legs... Enjoy the photos!

Intermontane Challenge - Day 5

We did it! Friday was a time trail, a shorter course of 30km with some intense ups and downs, again in the blistering sun where you literally felt like you were baking alive! Heather and I raced as hard as we could, and left it all on the trail. We came in 2nd again, only 2 mins behind the pro gals. We're pretty tired right now, but had a great week overall. We raced well together as a team and are very proud of what we accomplished. There was stiff competition, the gals in our category race full time and actually get paid for it! Over 100 racers started on Monday, but only 67 ended up finishing yesterday!
We'd like to thank all of our friends and family for supporting us. AND of course, our sponsors ... Peak Centre for Human Performance for training us, Different Bikes for helping us keep our bikes together, North Shore Athletics for nutritional support, Race Face for providing gloves for our ride.
Congrats also to our teammate, Tara Walsh and her race partner Chris Welsh who also completed the race with us and finished strong. They road well every day and didn't even get lost!
Looking forward to sleeping in, relaxing, and eating some yummy food again!
KJ and Heather

(I (KJ) would also like to thank Sophia and Heather of Active Life Physio for seriously helping me keep my back and body together over the last year or so ... I was honestly told almost 2 years ago I should not bike or run any more! You guys rock!!)
